Tinned copper saucers have been used to hold porcelain teacups ever since the Qing dynasty. This chataku is cast from copper by Shinkō Kinzoku in the city of Tsubame in Niigata, Japan after which it is tinned to give it its soft lustre. Over time, the tin will develop a patina that contrasts beautifully with a porcelain kumidashi teacup.
